I loved the devil once
He took a pleasing shape
Made a path into my soul
To feed, to feed, and breed
His contempt of love
I left the devil one day
My shriveled, starved soul
Limped and crawled away
Clutching the shred of love
I’d managed to save
The devil still roams
He’s far from me, not near
But I am sickened when I remember
I let the devil in, and loved
loved, loved him to emptiness
The devil lives on
In his ever-pleasing shape
He eats the souls of those who care
Beware, beware, he’s out there
Dressed like a good man
